Madan Ahalya Mahila Mahavidyalay Naugachia, the brain-child of a great visionary, social activist, and scholar, Late Dr. Ahilya (Devi) Singh and her husband, Late Madan Pd.Singh (ex- minister, Govt. of Bihar), came into life on 23rd of June, 1982. The college started functioning in the morning session in the building and premises of Lakshmi Kanya Vidyalay, Naugacghia until it shifted in its own campus of today. In course of time, it obtained the status of Affiliated Unit of Bhagalpur University, and on Feb26, 1988 it became the constituent unit of the University(present T.M.Bhagalpur University). The need of a college for women was urgentbecause of the backwardness of the region. Naugachia is a Police District and a sub-divisional Head Qr.of Bhagalpur District. Perennially raided by the flood of the Ganga and the Kosi both, the entire subdivision is situated locked by the Ganga in the south, the Kosi in the North and the confluence of both the rivers in the East, only 12 KMs away. The wrath and fury of the rivers causes incessant challenges for the general aspects of the institution in the forms of damage to the assets and regularity of attendance of the students. M. A. M. College was founded to cater to the educational needs of the girls and women. The college imparts teaching of Graduation (B.A/B.Sc. Honours) level in 19 subjects of Arts and Science. Dr Ahilya Singh was the first Principal of this college.
